Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta with a population of about 1.2 million people. It is located in the southern region of Alberta and you can see the Canadian Rockies from its streets.
Many people in Calgary are employed by the oil and gas industry. BP Canada, Imperial Oil, Suncor Energy and Shell Canada all have their head offices here. Several other international companies also have their head offices here and in fact, Calgary has the second highest concentration of head offices in Canada, second only to Toronto. Many people in Calgary also work in the agriculture industry while Calgary also has many successful small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Calgary has a budding arts and culture scene and there are many wonderful festivals held here year round. Calgary's biggest and most popular festival is its annual Calgary Stampede. Sports are also very big in Calgary and it is home to many sports teams including the Calgary Flames (hockey), the Calgary Stampeders (CFL) and the Calgary Roughnecks (lacrosse).
