Coquitlam is a primarily suburban city and it is home to over 125,000 British Columbians. It is one of the twenty-one municipalities that make up of Metro Vancouver and it is located only about 15 kilometers away from downtown Vancouver. Like many of the other municipalities in Metro Vancouver, it is referred to as a bedroom community where people come to live while commuting to work every day in downtown Vancouver or any of the surrounding Metro Vancouver suburbs.
Coquitlam is a city in which there are many green spaces. Mundy Park and Ridge Park are two of the local favourite parks however there are also over 80 parks in Coquitlam that anyone can explore. Coquitlam is also a great place for spring and summer festivals. The Festival du Bois takes place here every spring as well as the Water's Edge Festival and the Como Lake Fishing Derby. The Blue Mountain Music festival and the BC Highland Games are two of Coquitlam's fantastic summer festivals.
