Fort St. John is a little city of only about 20,000 residents and it is located in the northeastern part of British Columbia. The Alaska Highway runs through Fort St. John at Mile 47 and despite its small population, it is actually the most populated city along this northern highway. It is a city that is mostly known as the transportation and supply center for the northern reaches of British Columbia. The oil industry also has a strong presence here as well as the forestry industry. The city actually has a very low unemployment rate and many of the cities young people have well-paying jobs in the oil and gas industry.
For fun, many Fort St. John residents love to go outside and visit many of the city's pretty parks. One of the most frequented parks in the city is Centennial Park which has a large pool, two arenas, a curling rink, a speed skating oval, an outdoor water park and it is also where the Fort St. John North Peace Museum is located.
