Gatineau is a large city in Quebec that actually lies along the Ontario-Quebec border. It sits across from Ottawa (Canada's capital) separated by the Ottawa River. About 300,000 people live in Gatineau and although the population speaks French, English is also very commonly spoken here. Many federal and provincial government offices are located in Gatineau and they are some of the major employers in this city.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Casino du Lac-Leamy are two of the key landmarks in Gatineau. There is also a very colourful hot air balloon festival held here every Labour Day weekend. There are also many wonderful parks throughout Gatineau that are favoured meeting places for many of Gatineau's residents. Lac Beauchamp Park and the Jacques Cartier Park are lush parks with open green spaces, streams and wooded areas. The hills that lie at the northern and eastern parts of the city are also very beautiful and they lend the city its gorgeous landscape.
