Saskatoon is the largest city in Saskatchewan with a population of over 200,000 people. It is located in the southern portion of the province, right in the middle of the Prairies. Because of its location, agriculture and livestock mostly drive its economy. Other prosperous industries in Saskatoon are oil, uranium, gold and diamond mining. The world's largest potash producer, PotashCorp , is also based out of Saskatoon.
The winters in Saskatoon are very cold and snowy and it is a city where skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and hockey are some of the most loved wintertime activities. The Meewasin Skating Rink is a wonderful outdoor skating rink located in downtown Saskatoon. In the summertime, cycling, jogging and hiking are the most beloved activities. Many Saskatonians enjoy hiking along the picturesque Meewasin Valley Trail, which runs along the South Saskatchewan River. The Delta Bessborough Hotel and the Frank & Ellen Remai Arts Centre are also favourite places to visit.
