Teachers are an invaluable group with one of the most challenging and rewarding professions. Whether teaching primary school, secondary school, university or college, teachers educate students on a variety of subjects that become important in later life. Helping students discover a wide range of topics, from mathematics to archaeology to second languages, teachers are some of the most influential people in a person's life. Often required to work with scholars of varying ages from age four to early adulthood teachers must use encouraging styles of instruction to engage students in a particular subject while following an approved curriculum.
The responsibilities of teachers vary by age group, school curriculum, and subject. Generally, teachers are required to evaluate the progress of students, assign work and give tests, but teachers must also be able to recognize the individual learning needs of students. While primary school teachers are responsible for a class throughout the school day, secondary school teachers and college and university professors usually teach a specialist subject to several classes. An understanding, approachable nature and a high level of energy is important.
