Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and it is the second most populated city in this province. It is located on Vancouver Island, which is about 100km off the Pacific Coast of Canada, and it is a city with about 80,000 residents. Victoria is a very picturesque city in Western Canada full of many old and famous historic buildings such as the British Columbia Parliament Buildings and the Empress hotel. It is also a city in Canada that experiences a relatively mild winter and therefore, it has become a very popular place to live for older Canadians.
Vancouver Island itself has a very rich shoreline dotted with lovely beaches that are a joy to explore. Victoria is often chosen by tourists as a jumping-off point from which to explore the island and its many small towns. Many yachters also use Victoria as a home base from which to explore the surrounding Gulf Islands.
Victoria is known as a big city with a relaxed, small town feel. It has a great arts and culture scene as well as a large student population. Many tourists also visit Victoria yearly to explore Beacon Hill Park, Victoria's Chinatown and the Royal British Columbia Museum.
