General Description:

The purpose of this role is to help the SPM controls team design and commission controls systems for new and/or existing machines.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with other departments toward a design plan for successful completion of a project
  • Design machine wiring schematics – including power distribution, PLC control, network communications
  • Prepare bill of materials for all electrical components
  • Design panel and back plate layouts
  • Design pneumatic control system (this is integrated with the electrical schematic)
  • Prepare bill of materials for all pneumatic components
  • Work with mechanical engineering team to ensure a thorough design process
  • Generate PLC and HMI programs
  • Generate robot programs
  • Set up vision systems
  • Startup machine and troubleshoot all aspects of control system
  • Ensure customer satisfaction of the control system
  • Update and expand existing designs/programs
  • Work with suppliers regarding new products required for projects

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Technologist from accredited University/College required
  • Must have a continued desire to learn new technologies
  • Special knowledge/skills
    • Familiarity with special purpose machine function and set up
    • PLC programming and troubleshooting skills (Siemens/Allen Bradley)
    • HMI programming skills (Siemens/Allen Bradley)
    • Robot programming (Fanuc/ABB/Nachi)
    • Design software (AutoCad Electrical)
  • Good working knowledge of Industry and Engineering Standards
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills, along with ability to maintain focus until successful completion of assigned projects
  • Must have 10+ years relevant experience
