Compliance Specialist

Are you a highly detail oriented and confident Compliance Specialist with electrical engineering/electronics expertise? Do you excel in developing regulatory compliance in product development? Are you knowledgeable on product regulations, test methodologies and hardware design homologation? You will join other subject matter experts and play an essential role in our high-tech engineering and manufacturing team at our Calgary Campus at 10921-14 St. NE, Calgary, AB, T3K 2L5. Reporting to our Senior Manager, Compliance, you will track standards development in hardware compliance and ensure that regulatory requirements are met globally. Focused on product safety, electromagnetic compatibility, energy efficiency and RF/wireless compliance standards, you will direct product type approvals and build and implement process changes. As a Compliance Specialist, you will:

  • Work with the compliance team members and project teams to remove any roadblocks and to optimize project delivery for all compliance tasks
  • Facilitate corporate initiatives on product, material and environmental compliance
  • Develop and implement reliable processes that will ensure compliance
  • Engage with internal domains and key stakeholders to improve processes and ensure predictable delivery of tasks
  • Develop product compliance specifications for products, materials, components, markings, labeling, and testing to meet legal requirements
  • Liaise with external test laboratories, certification bodies (UL, CSA) and agencies to provide project services that deliver on time and on budget
  • Understand hardware requirements and design documents and develop comprehensive test strategies, procedures and plans that ensure product compliance to the system requirements
  • Prepare documentation packages for type approvals
  • Conduct hardware validation testing (electrical performance, environmental and regulatory), component qualification, debugging prototype hardware, investigation of design defects and testing of design changes, when required. Perform detailed product testing at the system and component levels
  • Work continuously to improve compliance verification, homologation and test processes
  • Provide EMC/EMI test standard interpretation and testing expertise
  • Offer design and manufacturing support with regards to product performance, managing certification processes, wireless regulations and safety certifications
  • Form and defend educated opinions while collaborating with development teams to meet project objectives
  • Interface with various suppliers, service providers or vendors along with industry partners to ensure product compliance
  • Oversee test data to validate conformance to legal and regulatory requirements

Must-Have:

  • Electrical engineering degree or electronics technology diploma or related education
  • 5+ years’ experience in hardware and/or regulatory compliance testing including test methodologies and best practices
  • 3+ years of HW compliance understanding on consumer electronics
  • Highly skilled in key hardware regulatory compliance standards in EMC, safety, RF/wireless, lighting and energy efficiency specific to core Hexagon A&P product lines
  • Knowledge of different types of consumer product technologies and architecture
  • Background working and collaborating effectively with external testing facilities
  • Excellent communication, teamwork skills and work ethic
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced company
  • A positive attitude, high-quality focus and meets deadlines
  • Knowledge and awareness of global approval requirements and processes
  • Prior experience with regulatory requirements for electronic devices, i.e. EMC, EMI, Electrical Safety
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs
  • Experience with ISO 17025, ISO 16949, ISO 14001

Nice-to-Have:

  • You have worked with regulatory compliance processes that involve regulatory bodies/standards such as UL, CSA, CB-Scheme, ETSI, CE, RED, and FCC
  • Monitor, interpret, and implement worldwide laws and directives with regards to regulatory compliance of products
  • Experience with Radio standards, Autonomy, Agriculture, Automotive, Marine, Military
  • Working knowledge of RoHS / REACH / WEEE / SCIP / GADSL
  • Ability to travel

Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division provides the following compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits. This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule. Hexagon Autonomy and Positioning reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, provincial, or federal law. Our benefits and bonus plans are reviewed annually and are subject to change.

Hiring Salary Range: $101,400 - $110,000

Bonus Eligibility: Yes
