Dance Assistant – Recital and Non-Recital

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Reporting to the Recreation Programmer/Recreation Coordinator, assist in implementing a high quality program that is stimulating and enjoyable for all participants as well as the safety and well being of participants at all times.

Position Duties:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation and delivery of safe group dance classes
  • Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging participants
  • Assist in selecting and providing appropriate music for dance programs
  • Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
  • Attend meetings/training as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Minimum 15 years of age
  • Demonstrate ability in one or more dance disciplines (acrobatics, ballet, belly dance, jazz, tap, hip hop, jr. creative movement classes) during practical assessment
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR C from an accredited organization, or ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, considered an asset
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills

**Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.

Job status: Part-time

Hourly rate: $14.25

This position is subject to providing proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 in accordance with the Region of Peel’s Letter of Instruction that the City of Brampton must comply with. Successful candidates will be required to be fully vaccinated with a Health Canada or the World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine series with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date. To maintain ongoing fully vaccinated status, the successful candidate must also receive each dose/booster that may be required or recommended by Public Health. The City of Brampton will consider cases requiring accommodation as stipulated by relevant employment standards legislation or regulation and/or the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Fully vaccinated means the two-week anniversary after receiving a vaccination series approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization. Acceptable proof includes an Ontario Ministry of Health COVID-19 vaccine receipt which you can obtain through the Provincial portal https://covid19.ontariohealth.ca/ , or other government-issued vaccine passport or certification.
