CHA Consulting, Inc., is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer III to join our Power – Generation & Energy group in our St. Catharines, ON office.

  • Independently completes complex development of electrical power systems design, preparation of specifications, compiles technical reports and other activities requiring the knowledge of standard electrical engineering principles and techniques
  • Responsible for the development of design computations, technical reports, technical specifications and preparation of the contract documents, using the standards established by the technical group
  • Identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments
  • Selects proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations
  • Recognizes technical discrepancies in analytical results and makes appropriate corrections following standard procedures established by the technical group
  • Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of a project independently with other engineering disciplines and project management staff
  • Continuously monitors the progress and performance on a project to ensure efficient production, to uncover potential problems and to minimize malfunction in executing a design
  • Continuously monitors the progress and performance of the engineering design development against the project work plan
  • Can develop individual discipline work plans to coincide with the milestones of a project work plan
  • Complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints
  • Provides guidance to junior level engineering staff members
  • Provides technical review of work completed by junior level engineering staff as necessary
  • May assist or be involved in the technical scope proposal development
  • Independently completes field assignments when appropriate
  • Performs other appropriate related engineering duties

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license is preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of electrical power systems engineering related experience required.
  • Experience in power systems analysis (load flow, arc-flash, short circuit, protection coordination, etc.) is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (EasyPower, SKM, CYME, WinIGS, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Demonstrates a strong theoretical knowledge about electrical engineering application and design.
  • Experience in the design of electrical power systems including specific experience with substations, industrial facilities, central utility plants, power plants, generation plants & distribution systems.
  • Application and design of low, medium & high voltage systems.
  • Detailed design of relay protection systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards and codes.
  • Proficiency in writing of electrical technical/equipment specifications and other project related design documents.
  • Proven ability to practically apply engineering best practices.
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment including, LV & MV switchgear, transformers and generators as well as standard methods of connection and assembly.
  • Familiar with QA/QC procedures and understands basic business practices and laws related to engineering.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively work in a collaborative and multi-discipline team environment with the willingness to assist more senior staff and mentor junior staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required.
  • An active role in a professional engineering society /organization is preferred.
