Marketing and Promotions Specialist

Position Overview:

The Marketing and Promotions Specialist is responsible for aiding the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s (CWF) Senior Conservation Biologist in the development and implementation of marketing, event and digital strategies related to the CWF marine conservation program. This will include the promotion of gear trial and lending programs, sharing of knowledge and scientific results, improving public awareness on a variety of marine conservation topics, and strengthening a community of stakeholders engaged in CWF marine conservation programs. In addition, this position will work with the Senior Conservation Biologist to refine and then implement an existing targeted communication program. They will be responsible for helping to ensure consistent and cohesive messaging. The ideal candidate should have event coordination experience, digital marketing and social media experience, strong attention to detail and excellent administrative and marketing/communication skills. This position will also support the overall work of CWF and contributes to the productivity of this not-for-profit organization. Other duties shall be assigned as necessary.

Job Duties

  • Maintain websites related to fishing gear trialing and lending programs and Marine Team social media accounts.
  • Update The Watch and Ropeless Fishing Facebook groups
  • Write blogs and other outreach articles.
  • Work with the marine team to develop and implement a communication plan, for several programs, particularly the fishing gear lending program.
  • Create promotional products from materials produced by the gear trials program.
  • Assist with coordinating and engaging at boat shows/conference events.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


  • 3-5 years of work experience in Marketing and Communications and/or Event Services;
  • Bilingual En/Fr is a strong asset.
  • Possess an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, English or another related field; or relevant work experience
  • Experience overseeing multiple projects with aggressive timelines;
  • Web savvy
  • Possess exceptional writing and communication skills, with an eye for good content (both written and design);
  • Must be highly organized
  • Detail-oriented and highly meticulous, even when faced with competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Display good judgment, with an ability to identify risks and manage expectations;
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to articulate creative concepts and rationale with every level of the organization;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, as well as Google Analytics.


Work Conditions

  • Location: Ideally Halifax, NS. Candidates outside of Halifax will be accepted.
  • Term length: 1 year fixed-term
  • Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.
  • Interacts with employees, various management levels and the public at large.
  • Repetitive work.
  • Overtime may be required
